Factors To Consider When Buying Thanksgiving Table
On January 26, 2022 by BrittanyA Thanksgiving table is an odd mix of decorative elements that are normally not in the same room together. The end result can be something richly beautiful or a mess of mismatched colors, patterns, and textures. Here are some things to consider when deciding what to place on your table, so it comes out looking nice instead of sloppy.
1. Color: As with most decorations, the color scheme of your table should either be based on autumn colors or golden-yellow. You can use many different shades of these two contrasting colors, and they will work together nicely.
Throughout history, red has been considered a festive color (think how often you hear about “Red” parties). However, Thanksgiving is not one of those times. Red goes much better with Christmas than it does with Thanksgiving. Better to avoid this color for now.
2. Texture: While the texture is an element that’s nearly impossible to overlook completely in any room, it may have less impact here than usual because everything else is so busy being noticed too. If you have some items that are flat and others that are textured, aim for contrast and don’t worry too much about which textures will go together.
3. Tablecloth: A tablecloth is vital to any Thanksgiving table because it’s very hard to find anything else that’s the right size, shape, texture, color, etc. It is also easier to work with a larger surface area than it is with individual pieces of flatware or dishes. If you don’t have an old table-length decorative cloth stashed away somewhere already, this may be your best investment of time and money when shopping for all the other items on this list.
4. Placemats: Placemats are not always used with dinner tables at other times of the year, but they are standard during the Thanksgiving season if only because there is no tablecloth. You can use more than one if you have a lot of people coming over, and it will give some extra color to the table as well as protect it from spills.
5. Table runner: If you don’t have a tablecloth, fall back on a long (but not too tall) runner. Like placemats, these can be used in many other rooms at any time of year for added color and texture throughout the house. This is another good place to add some autumnal colors or even Thanksgiving designs that won’t overwhelm any other elements on your table (such as black-and-white gingham).
In conclusion, the Thanksgiving table is very much like any other table. However, you can combine your Thanksgiving decorations with all these items to make it special and show everyone how thankful you are for them.
